A Digital Signature Certificate or DSC is adopted by various government authorities and is now a statutory requirement. It a secure digital key that holds the information of one individual in the form of the name, phone number, email, address, pin, country, date of issuance of certificate and name of the certifying authorities. This DSC key is issued by certifying authorities for the purpose of validating and certifying the identity of a person having this certificate.

Types of DSC

The types of DSC are divided into 3 main categories:-

Sign: The Digital Signature Certificate is used for signing documents like PDF file for Tax Returns, MCA, and other websites.

Encrypt: Encrypt DSC is used by companies and organizations. It is popularly used in the tender portal, to help companies to encrypt their documents and upload. One can also use certificate encrypted information for sharing it online.

Sign & Encrypt: One can use this format of sign and encrypt both at once.

You can follow the following steps while applying for DSC or Digitally Signed Certificate:-

  1. Submission of DSC Application form duly filled in by the applicant
  2. Producing Photo ID proof
  3. Producing Address proof

 

Classes of DSC

The type of applicant depends on the purpose for which Digital Signature Certificate depends on one’s need. Majorly there are three types of DSC issued by the authorities.

Class 1 Certificates: These are issued to individual/private subscribers. It is used to confirm that the user’s name and email contact details from the clearly defined subject lie within the database of the certifying authority.

Class 2 Certificates: Class 2 certificate is issued to the director/signatory authorities of the companies for the purpose of e-filing with the Registrar of Companies. It is mandatory for individuals who have to sign manual documents while filing of returns with the ROC.

Class 3 Certificates: These certificates are used in online participation/bidding in e-auctions and online tender PAN India. Those who wish to participate in the online tenders must have a particularly this signature certificate.
